Jill and Phill chat about 2 great Greek wines from Domaine Kikones. Phill has label problems (again!) and Herb Englebert stops in to chat and “help” taste some wine!
“Great meal at Kanella last night. Dips of the day - sardine, fresh fava bean, and baba ganoush - were excellent! And, we happened to bring the perfect wine…”

Shh! Its a secret wine we sell by the bottle at Jet! Kikones “Ippeas”, from Thracian Greece. I have a love affair with wines from Thrace - Greek, Bulgarian, or otherwise. In part, this is due to Spartacus. Spartacus came from Thrace, possibly of the Maedi tribe. This producer is named after a different tribe, the Kikones.
The wine would make Spartacus proud, though. It is a very handsome blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine has strong tannins beneath the smokey cocoa, clove, toasted nutmeg, plum, and cherry.
